How to use the Online Notepad

  1. Start typing in the note box. Your text saves automatically a moment after you stop.
  2. Click New note to start another one. Your notes are listed on the left (above on phones).
  3. Click a note in the list to switch to it. The first line becomes its title.
  4. Use Download .txt to keep a copy as a file, or Open .txt to load a text file into a new note.
  5. Delete a note you no longer need with Delete note.

How it works

This notepad keeps your notes in your browser's local storage, a small private storage area that belongs to this website on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so your notes are private, and they're also only available in this browser on this device.

Because of that, notes can disappear if you clear your browsing data, use a private window, or switch browsers. For anything important, download it as a .txt file. Plain text files open in every notes app and word processor.

The word count splits your text on spaces and line breaks, and the character count includes spaces. Browsers usually allow around 5 MB of local storage per site, which is roughly a few million characters, far more than most notes need.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my notes saved?
In this browser on this device only. They aren't uploaded or synced, so they won't appear on your phone if you wrote them on your laptop.

Will my notes still be here tomorrow?
Yes, as long as you use the same browser and don't clear this site's data. Private or incognito windows delete everything when you close them.

Is it safe for passwords or private information?
Your notes never leave your device, but anyone who uses this browser can open this page and read them. Don't keep passwords here; use a password manager instead.

Can I format text, like bold or lists?
This is a plain-text notepad, which keeps it fast and makes downloads work everywhere. You can still type simple lists with dashes or numbers.
