Screen Recorder

Record your whole screen, one window or a browser tab, with your voice if you like, and save the video.

🔒 Your recording stays on your device. The video is captured and saved by your browser and never uploaded.

Ready. You will choose what to share in your browser's picker.

Record responsibly. Get permission before recording other people. Recording-consent laws differ by state and country, and some places require everyone in a conversation to agree.

How to use the Screen Recorder

  1. Choose the format, frame rate and quality, and tick Record my microphone if you want to narrate.
  2. Click Start recording. Your browser shows a picker: choose the entire screen, a window, or a tab. To include a tab's sound, choose a tab and switch on its share audio option.
  3. Do what you want to record. Use Pause to skip parts.
  4. Click Stop here, or the browser's own Stop sharing button.
  5. Watch the preview and click Download video.

How it works

The recorder uses the browser's getDisplayMedia feature, the same one video-call sites use for screen sharing. You choose exactly what to share in the browser's own picker, and the page never sees anything you didn't pick. The picture is then compressed in real time by MediaRecorder into WebM (VP9 or VP8) or, in browsers that support it, MP4 (H.264). Only formats that work in your browser are listed.

Sound has two possible sources. Tab or system audio is offered by Chrome and Edge when you share a tab (and on Windows, the whole screen); Firefox and Safari currently share only the picture. Your microphone is captured separately. When both are on, the tool mixes them into one track with the Web Audio API so the file has a single soundtrack.

The quality setting is the target bitrate. Standard (5 Mbps) gives clear text at 1080p and uses roughly 35–40 MB per minute; screens with little motion often come out smaller. 60 fps is smoother for games or animations but costs more processing. The recording is kept in memory until you download it.

Screen capture is only available in desktop browsers. iPhones, iPads and most Android browsers don't let websites record the screen, so use the screen recorder built into your phone's control center or quick settings there.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no option to start on my phone?
Mobile browsers (Safari on iPhone and iPad, and most Android browsers) don't offer screen capture to websites. Your phone has a built-in screen recorder in its control center or quick settings that works well instead.

Why is there no sound from my computer in the recording?
System and tab audio are only available in Chrome and Edge, and only if you turn on share audio in the picker. Sharing a single window usually can't include sound. On macOS, choose a browser tab to capture its sound.

Is there a time limit?
There is no set limit, but the video is held in memory until you download it. Recordings up to about 30 minutes at Standard quality are comfortable on most computers; for longer sessions use Smaller file or a lower frame rate.

Is my screen recording uploaded?
No. It is recorded by your browser and stays on your computer. Nothing is sent to any server.

Can I record a video call or other people?
Only with their permission. Many places require everyone in a conversation to agree before it is recorded.
