White Noise Generator

Steady background sound for focus, sleep or masking noise. Mix as many sounds as you like.

🔒 All sound is generated live by your browser. Nothing is downloaded or uploaded.

How to use the White Noise Generator

  1. Tick one or more sounds. White noise is selected to start.
  2. Press Play. Adjust each sound's slider to mix them, and use the master volume for overall loudness.
  3. Choose a sleep timer if you want the sound to fade out and stop on its own.
  4. Keep the volume comfortable. Background sound should be soft enough that you could still talk over it.

How it works

Every sound here is generated live by your browser's audio engine from random numbers, so nothing is downloaded and there are no recordings involved. Each sound is a few seconds of computed noise played in a seamless loop.

White noise has equal energy at every frequency, which sounds bright and hissy, like TV static. Pink noise drops 3 dB per octave, so higher frequencies are softer; many people find it more natural, similar to steady rain. Brown noise (named after Brownian motion, not the color) drops 6 dB per octave and sounds deep, like a distant waterfall. The rain and fan options are filtered noise shaped to resemble those sounds.

The sleep timer lowers the volume smoothly over the last 30 seconds and then stops, so the sound doesn't cut off abruptly.

Frequently asked questions

Which noise is best for sleep?
It's personal. Many people prefer pink or brown noise because they're less sharp than white noise. Try each one at a low volume for a few minutes.

Is it safe to listen for a long time?
Keep the volume low, especially with headphones and for children. Health organizations recommend keeping sleep sounds quiet and at a distance from the ear. This tool is not a medical device.

Why does the sound stop when my phone locks?
Some phones pause web audio when the screen locks or the browser goes into the background. Keep the page open, or use a plugged-in device for overnight use.

Does it use data?
Only to load this page once. The sound itself is created on your device, so it doesn't stream anything.
